Situated in Young, NSW, is the Chinese tribute Gardens. Young has a bit of a bloody history, and I guess these gardens are our way of saying sorry for the past. During the gold rush, an influx of Chinese came to town to try their luck on the goldfields. The European miners did not like this one bit. Tensions escalated until the Lambing Flat was the scene of a bloody and violent riot, driving the terrified Chinese, and police, from the goldfields. It does make for some interesting reading, go look it up, you won’t be disappointed.
So, in way of a peace-offering, we now have the Chinese Tribute Gardens. It is a beautiful and serene place and Young’s major tourist attraction. If ever you are in the area, it is well worth a visit and it’s absolutely free.
